STRIKE MANDATE VOTE June 7th to June 10th

Good afternoon everyone.
For everyone that has already voted, we thank you.

For those of you who have only just signed up for CUPE 5050 emails, it may take a day or two to get the link to you as the link comes from an outside company, not from CUPE 5050. We all have until the 17th of June to cast our votes so please do not panic if you haven’t yet received your link.

In the next day or so, you should receive a link from “noreply@motionmeetings.com. This email will contain your one-time link. Once again, please do not share your link as previously stated, it is a one-time link & if someone else uses it, you will be out of luck. Also, if you do not see the email in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folders. I do know that hotmail email system has an extra security feature which will dump mass emails in those folders.

Also, if you have any phone other than an IPhone, the link will not be a hyperlink (blue text). If it is not, just hold your finger on the link & it will open.

If you have just signed up for emails with us in the last three days, please send me a quick message with the words “Got It” so that I know our system is working for you. My email is jhill@syd.eastlink.ca

If you’ve been receiving our emails all along, please do not email me, my system may crash. 🙂

Any questions, please feel free to contact us.

In solidarity,
Nelson Scott
President

Strike Vote FAQ

Q: Is this a vote to go on strike?
No, it is not a vote to immediately go on strike. It is a strike mandate vote.

Q: What is a strike mandate vote?
A bargaining tool to show the employer we stand behind our bargaining team and we mean business.

Q: Who can vote?
All permanent, term and casual Education Support Workers should vote, including those on leave.

Q: Why vote yes?
A high number of yes votes shows the employer that members are unified, giving the bargaining committee maximum leverage to negotiate a fair contract.

Q: What consists of a strong strike mandate?
To pass, the vote requires a majority (50% + 1). However, a strong mandate means reaching 80% or more. Lack of vote is counted as a no vote.

Q: Are other Locals holding strike mandate votes?
All 8 CUPE Locals affiliated with NSSBCU have signed a solidarity pact, which commits all Locals to coordinated bargaining efforts and joint action to protect workers’ rights. In short, we bargain together, we potentially walk together.
